Vignettes of LIfe was conceived and produced with the idea that photography delivered on CD-ROM should be of the highest quality possible, should be reproducible in print or other media without loss of quality from original film, and should be comprised of images that are versatile and usable. ABOUT THIS DISC
Vignettes of LIfe includes 100 large CMYK (38 mb avg) and medium format RGB (10 mb) images optimized for full color print reproduction (see technical section below). There are also 100 low-resolution RGB TIFF images for quick viewing, comping, web and multimedia use. Vignettes of LIfe includes an Extensis¬ Portfolio¬ browser readable on Macintosh and Windows platforms. Also included is an on-screen license and warranties section, as well as this "read me" file.
COMPREHENSIVE HOW-TO DOCUMENT
We've included 50 precomposed images and 50 original images complete with clipping paths. A comprehensive document (How to.TXT) walks you through the process of creating your own custom vignette images in Adobe¿ Photoshop¿. Look for it in the Read Me folder.
TECHNICAL
Images were oil mount scanned on a high-end Crosfield¬ drum scanner as RGB TIFFS at 300 dpi. Images were cropped, retouched and color corrected. They were then saved as JPEG files at the maximum quality option in Adobe Photoshop.
The large-format JPEGs compressed to image sizes of between 3 and 6 mb; when opened, they range from 30 to 46 mb in size. Image sizes are approximately 11 x 12 inches. Adobe has confirmed that images saved at the highest JPEG setting experience no loss in quality. Low resolution images are uncompressed 72 dpi RGB TIFFs saved at approximately 600 kb.
BROWSING SOFTWARE
A cross-platform browser (Extensis Portfolio) is included on this disc. Entitled ╥BROWSER.fdb,╙ the browser features all of the images from Vignettes of LIfe and is keyword searchable. You can launch the browser, by simply double clicking on it. You can also install the browser from the folder entitled "PORTPC" (for Windows users) or "Portfolio 4.0" (for Macintosh users).
OUR ENTIRE COLLECTION
You can browse all of the images offered in our other volumes by opening the folder entitled ╥Catalog╙ and double clicking on the file ╥Catalog.fdb.╙ This browser includes approx. 2,200 images suitable for comping. The images included in the folder labeled "catalog" (other than images of Vignettes of LIfe) are for comping or FPO use only. Do not use the COMPING IMAGES of our other titles (excluding Vignettes of LIfe) for placement on any online medium (internet, networks, computer bulletin boards are strictly prohibited) or for commercial use. See the file entitled "license."
We've also included Adobe Acrobat pdf documents of all of our volumes. These are located in the folder called "Acrobat catalogs". If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader, you may download it from Adobe's website at www.adobe.com, or you may install it from the CD.
